Just some notes about The Tipi Company, how it’s changed and whom I’m targeting.
Since we started with you as the portal to near profit the stock had grown ridiculously. It wasn’t my plan (because I don’t have one) but we are now the largest provider of furnished tipis and Bell Tents in Europe. We now need artics to move the stock from job to job and this year are adding another lorry for what will be our biggest job of the year – 70+tipis and 20 Bell Tents.
We no longer provide hire for single tipis. In fact 10 is really the minimum job that is viable although depending on the existing bookings, time of year etc I occasionally quote for smaller jobs. But 6 really is the minimum.
Up to this point if you rule out doing individual hire our customer base comprise of one yearly private party, a couple of festivals, and the odd corporate type thing. Over the last year we developed and added a new offering which is the classic and Iconic canvas Bell tent. Same size, same top spec furnishings, even a gas heater but guaranteed dryness and not smelling of smoke.
The festival tipi hire market is saturated and in the economy we are looking at 2+ years of recession. Luxuries and optional things are the first to go as each month many folk have continually shrinking wages packets. So apart from our established festivals and some subcontracting to a couple of festival tipi hire companies there isn’t much going on. There is not much potential for getting more business out of the Festival market.
I have identified new markets which are my current focus. Basically these are event organisers who arrange everything from weddings to product launches, really posh parties, corporate jollies, team building and so on. If any body is planning or running an event that requires temporary overnight furnished accommodation and hotels etc are not suitable currently the only option is portacabins.
Overall I think it could be a very big market and thus the development of the Bell Tent. We now have a brilliant versatile, fun, efficient, range of flexible solutions to a problem many event organisers face. We really are the only company that can provide turn key furnished sleeping accommodation anywhere in the uk and possibly Europe. We can provide beds for up to 400 people. Trouble is I have the solution, they have the problem and I don’t yet know who they are and they don’t know what we can do for them.
So my focus is simply to get the message out to these key people and companies. To identify them, mail shot them and have the website that backs it all up. And so we arrive at the 30th April 2008 and you come into the picture and wonder why you wver took me on as a client!
